Headlines

I've been tucked away all month trying to finish out NaNoWriMo. I had 2,100 words a day hanging over me for the past month and while it made me feel semi-productive to do some writing each day, I was surprised at how much mental space it took in my head. My entire day revolved around when I should be writing those two thousand words.

At first I did it as the last thing on my list before going to bed. But sometimes I'd go out somewhere until late, or fall asleep early, and then force myself to get up at weird hours to finish the words. Then somehow my sleep schedule went to semi-normal for two weeks and I was able to get my writing done first thing in the late morning. I'd then have a whole luxurious day stretching out in front of me that I didn't really know what to do with.

Writing should probably not be such a chore, but when obligated to some sort of (self imposed) schedule, it sure felt like one. In the end, I'm glad I did NaNo though, as it gave some structure to my month.

Other noteworthy November events: Three midnight special occasions. Immortals, Modern Warfare 3, and Breaking Dawn. Some lady brought her infant child to the midnight release of the game. I couldn't decide if I blamed the mother or the father. As for Breaking Dawn, the movie theater we selected had prepared eleven theaters for the extravaganza. Eleven. Hong made us leave as soon as the credits rolled, causing me to miss the extra scene. I'm still bitter. Oh, and there were a few very young children in there too. Who are these parents?

There was also a Gosling-fest over Thanksgiving, which started off with All Good Things, in which Gosling plays a frightening possible killer. Gosling proves that good or evil, he's still fantastic. And after re-watching Crazy Stupid Love, I've decided this Dirty Dancing scene from the movie is absolute genius. As Lilly said, "I bet someone really does this and they incorporated it into the script." I'm thinking recreating scenes from the Karate Kid didn't get anyone to first base. If only I could lift things/people.

As I'm learning, it is not easy to write a romantic comedy that is consistently funny. The most I've been able to come up with so far is a few forced grins. If even that.
