Earth Angel

My friend said, "Come to Ocean City! We live near the beach. You can write here." Then when she was trying to get me to house sit, her first sell involved me being around to ward off robbers and taking care of her dog. That's like an anti-sell; do we even know each other, are we even friends? What she should have said was, "We have a dock!"

As it turns out, her backyard opens up to water and a narrow wooden dock leads to adventure. When I saw it, I was immediately ready to go leaping off, cartwheeling into the dark. Sadly the water is only four feet deep and muddy, so flips won't be happening. The inlet leads out into the ocean, and I'm going to keep my eyes open for a stray dolphin or something wandering by. So far it's been mainly mosquitos and gnats but I'm a dreamer.

I thought only beaches gave me an introspective and peaceful feeling, but apparently any large body of water will do. If not for the bugs and the impending heat, I'd sleep out on this dock. Strangely my preferred dock music so far has been Ritchie Valens. "I had a girl and Donna was her name..."

What I'd really like to do is take the little pontoon around the bend, guided only by the stars and my as yet untested but soon to be discovered natural affinity for reading the currents. After a short journey I'd tie the boat up to shore, climb the ladder leading to a second story house window, and then hop into bed with my platonic friend. Between the Michelle Williams movie the other day, my recent purchase of the Blue Valentine DVD, and this desire to sneak around in a Capeside-like manner, I'm having a Dawson's Creek themed trip. If I meet someone who lost his virginity to his high school teacher this weekend, the circle will be complete.

Words probably used incorrectly in this entry: inlet, gnat, platonic, pontoon.
